Creator Growth
Druski Is Hosting SNL. Here's Why That's a Big Deal.
On November 7, Druski is set to become the first online content creator to host Saturday Night Live. Here's how he got there and what it means for creators who go LIVE.
The short version
- On November 7, Druski is set to host Saturday Night Live.
- He'll be the first online content creator to host in the show's history.
- His career started with home-made skits and Instagram LIVE auditions.
- The takeaway for creators: LIVE is where one of his biggest ideas started.
From skits in the family room to Studio 8H
Drew Desbordes started posting comedy skits to Instagram in October 2017 under the name "druski2funny." No studio and no network deal at the start, just off-the-cuff skits with familiar characters.
In 2020, Drake put him in the "Laugh Now Cry Later" video. Around the same time, he started running fake rapper auditions on Instagram LIVE for a label that didn't exist, Coulda Been Records. Guests came on, performed, and got teased in real time. It was built for LIVE: unscripted, with the audience watching it happen. At one point he and Drake drew more than 200,000 viewers to an Instagram LIVE, so many that the app glitched.
That bit turned into a real business. A headline comedy tour in March 2023. Coulda Fest in 2024, which launched with a sold-out show at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. A company, 4lifers, that covers his touring, TV, film, merch, and licensing. Then came the mainstream stages: he was the first comedian on the cover of Billboard's No. 1s issue, and in June 2026 he hosted the BET Awards as the youngest host in the show's history, passing Kevin Hart's record from 2011.
He goes live, too. He has his own Twitch channel, where one stream in August 2025 peaked at nearly 41,000 viewers, and he has jumped on Kai Cenat's streams as a guest.
Why SNL is different
SNL has pulled cast members from online video since Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island in 2005, according to Puck. What it had never done is give the host job to someone who came up online. Until now, that seat has gone mostly to actors, musicians, athletes, and established comics.
The closest it came was Kim Kardashian in October 2021, a reality star and influencer, according to TheWrap.
Druski didn't get there by leaving the internet behind. He got there because of it.
What LIVE creators can take from this
LIVE can start a format
Coulda Been Records began as auditions on Instagram LIVE. It grew into Coulda Fest and part of his company, 4lifers. If a segment works on your LIVE, it can become something bigger than one stream.
Characters travel
BET's recap says his Awards opening used his megachurch-pastor character, and the show brought his Coulda Been Records audition format onto the stage. Know what your audience comes back for, and keep showing up as that.
Own the idea
Name your bits. "Coulda Been Records" was a joke label that turned into a brand with its own festival. A named format is worth more than one clip.
Audience first, big stages after
He built the audience first, and the big hosting jobs followed: the BET Awards in June, SNL in November.
Watch it
Saturday Night Live, Saturday, November 7, 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
Puck first reported the booking and Variety confirmed it through multiple sources. NBC had not formally announced it as of October 15, 2026.
